The axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) is an aquatic salamander native to Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. They are the first salamander to have its genome completely sequenced. axolotl toy are the only living species of the genus Ambystoma. The word “axolotl” is derived from the Nahuatl language of central Mexico and means “water monster.”
